Dane Johnson, 39, was alone when his Dodge Caravan left the road and hit a utility pole near East 33rd Street just after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, authorities said.
“Dane was a class act both on and off of the field,” wrote Pepe Aragon, Johnson’s soccer coach at Herkimer Community College in upstate New York. “He was a true friend who always asked how family was doing.”
“Great times we shared will always be etched in my heart,” added author Garold Gee Hamilton.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald said in a joint release.
An investigation was continuing, they said.
They asked that any witnesses contact the prosecutor’s tips line at 1-877-370-PCPO or tips@passaiccountyuj.org or the Paterson Police Traffic Division: (973) 321-1112.
Arrangements hadn’t yet been announced.
